Summer Garden Party Ideas - A Cooks & Partners Guide to Summer Party Styling

With the Summer months fast approaching, you may be starting to think about dusting off the BBQ and arranging a Summer soiree for your friends and family. Here at Cooks & Partners we know the key to a party’s success comes with attention to detail. That’s not just with the food and drink but also with the styling of the party. Theming an event, even if it’s just loosely can really make a difference to the overall look and feel of a party. Here are some of our top tips to make your party go off with a bang.

Summer Party Themes

You can theme a party in a number of ways to suit both budget and taste. If you want to keep it simple you might like to choose to theme your event using a colour as your focus. Vibrant pinks can look great against a contrasting green grass backdrop. You might choose to have a tablecloth, glassware, napkins and centrepiece in your chosen colour choice. Pink flamingos are everywhere right now and could be the way to go if you choose pink as your colour.

After a more classic look? An easy yet still colourful way to do this is with the inclusion of fresh flowers and laying them the width of the table.

After something a little more rustic? Think Romantic Italian with white linen tablecloths and matching napkins tied up with hessian rope. Fresh herbs can really set this look off.

Going The Extra Mile

If you want to take your theming to a whole new theme, why not centre your party on a national event, famous book or television show. Though a little quiet whilst filming takes place for the next season, everyone still seems to be obsessed by Game of Thrones. So how on earth could I make this a theme for my Summer party I hear you say. Well, Kings Landing is filmed in the sunny Croatian city of Dubrovnik. Deck your garden table out in the style of the Lannisters using rich reds and greens, with massive fruit platters as table centre pieces and serve wine from golden jugs. Use the wedding of Joffrey and Sansa as further inspiration. For a little extra fun, ask your guests to come dressed as characters from the show. With a little imagination anything is possible.

A popular trend this year is the Mad Hatters Tea Party. Quirky and fun, you can really let your imagination run wild with this one. From mismatching crockery to vibrant food and drink served with labels saying eat/drink me, there is a whole host of ideas you could do with this theme. There are numerous Pinterest boards to help along with this one.

National sporting events are another good and relatively easy way to theme a Summer party. A few years ago, the Cooks & Partners team turned their own car park into a rugby pitch for the Rugby World Cup.

Summer Party Planning

Plan well in advance and create a Pinterest board to collect your ideas together. It really helps to have a visual map of where you want to take your theme. Subtle themes can be incorporated into almost any elements of a party. And if this all sounds like too much hard work you could always ask one of the Cooks & Partners team about hosting a Summer party for you at one of their recommended venues. Venue of the Month for April 2018 happens to be The Orangery Holland Park. This beautiful venue has bags of outside space which is perfect for hosting a Summer event.
